The Sogin Group has completed the dismantling of systems and components inside the reactor building at the Latina nuclear power plant, vacating the rooms for future upgrades and to create a temporary depository for radioactive waste.
In particular, activities focused on systems used during the plant’s previous operation for the continuous monitoring and treatment of the coolant (CO2) coming from the primary circuit and the components of the decommissioned reactor building’s ventilation system. Part of the work also concerned certain lines and filtration equipment located outside the reactor building.
The operations resulted in the complete removal of process components and piping, amounting to approximately 180 tonnes of material, most of which was contaminated. These materials are radiometrically tested and either removed without radiological constraints or safely stored in one of the site's temporary repositories, according to the results.
