Sogin at the 17th European Nuclear Energy Forum (ENEF)

03 October 2024

Together with its CEO Gian Luca Artizzu, Sogin was part of the 17° European Nuclear Energy Forum (ENEF), which took place on 30 September and 1 October 2024 in Prague.

The Forum, founded in 2007, represents a platform for debate on the opportunities and risks of nuclear energy in Europe. Organised annually in Prague (Czech Republic) or Bratislava (Slovakia) in conjunction with the European Commission, the forum brings together key players in the nuclear sector, including European institutions, political representatives from Member States, the nuclear industry, nuclear safety regulators and experts from academia and research.

Video messages from the Czech and Slovak Prime Ministers opened the forum, with the issues of the 17th ENEF introduced by the Czech Deputy Prime Minister, Dr. Peter Kmec, addressing the 200 participants in the hall and over 300 attending remotely.

This year's conference focused on the security of nuclear radioisotope procurements, the role of nuclear energy in achieving the EU's climate targets for 2040, as well as related energy and industrial policy objectives. Extensive discussion centred around the newly established European Industrial Alliance on Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).

Sogin's CEO also participated in two break-out sessions, entitled "Financing investments" and "Mobilising, strengthening and harnessing synergies in supply chains".

The event also provided an opportunity to forge relations with representatives from the European Commission's ENERGY Directorate responsible for issues of corporate interest, and with representatives of various other operators and organisations.
