Sogin at the 68th General IAEA Conference

Between 16 and 20 September, Sogin took part in the 68th General IAEA Conference, an annual event that brings together Member States at the Agency's headquarters in Vienna, to discuss global cooperation in the nuclear field.
As part of the official Italian delegation, Sogin supported the Permanent Representative to International Organisations during the conference, taking part in various meetings organised on the sidelines of the conference on topics of business interest. In particular, with regard to the implications of new advanced reactor technologies on waste management, on strategies for the preservation of knowledge in the nuclear field and the European Union knowledge management programmes, on the developments of the Industrial Alliance on Small Modular Reactors (SMR), and on the international experiences of communities hosting nuclear facilities.
The Company also attended the meeting between members of the Italian delegation and the representative appointed by the Government to head the delegation, the Undersecretary of State Giorgio Silli, together with ISIN, ENEA, CIRTEN, the University of Pavia and other Italian institutions.
Finally, Sogin was also part of the Italian pavilion at the General Conference with a presentation on developments in Italian decommissioning, continuing with what had been done during the previous two editions of the conference.
Focusing on the issues of the siting process for the National Repository and Technology Park and the dismantling operations in recent months, the presentation also provided an opportunity to present a video on the start of the opening operations for the Garigliano nuclear power plant vessel (Caserta), underlining the importance of achieving this milestone in the context of the Italian decommissioning programme.
