Open Gate 2017:decommissioning nuclear plants re-open their doors on the 6th and 7th may
20 March 2017
The second edition of “Open Gate” will be held on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th May. This is the initiative where Sogin simultaneously opens the doors of decommissioning nuclear plants to citizens.
The event, which is being replicated after the strong number of participants registered in 2015, confirms the Company's commitment to providing information, transparency, and participation.
With Open Gate 2017, more than 3,000 visitors will have the opportunity, by registering online at www.sogin.it later than 20 April, to learn about the methods and technologies used by Sogin in dismantling nuclear plants and managing radioactive waste. The two-day event comes before the educational tour of the power plant in Latina of around 200 students from the Pontine area.
The main novelty of the second edition is the opportunity to visit the Eurex plant in Saluggiaa (Vercelli), destined in the past to research on the reprocessing of irradiated fuel. The initiative, just like the previous edition, involves the four nuclear power plants in Trino (Vercelli), which reached the world record for full-power operation, Caorso (Piacenza), the largest of our country, Latina, the first Italian power station that, at the time of its entry into operation, was the most powerful in Europe, and Garigliano (Caserta), plant designed by Riccardo Morandi, with its characteristic "sphere" that encloses the reactor.
