Topical Peer Review (TPR): Sogin at the international workshop on fire protection in nuclear installations

The Topical Peer Review workshop on specific fire prevention and protection issues relevant to nuclear and radiological safety at nuclear facilities was held in Luxembourg from 9 to 12 September.
The event was organised by the European Commission in the scope of the ENSREG project.
The meeting was attended by experts and observers, representatives from regulatory bodies, Operators and Supporting Scientific Organisations (TSOs) from all the EU countries and from Switzerland, Ukraine, the United States, United Kingdom and South Africa,
as well as representatives from the
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the
OECD Nuclear Energy Agency of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO),
the
World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) and the nuclear insurance company NEIL.
In total, 19 countries, 44 nuclear installation operators, 27 representatives from nuclear regulatory authorities and 44 remotely connected experts.
Sogin was represented by Gian Paolo Di Bartolomeo, Head of the Safety Analysis Area. He explained the fire safety aspects of the decommissioned Italian nuclear installations, with specific focus on the temporary repositories for radioactive waste. Other colleagues with an interest in the topics followed the event remotely, representing the sites involved in the Review: Trino, Saluggia, Casaccia, Latina and Itrec Trisaia.
The event represented the first opportunity for discussion on the methodologies and practices adopted in the different participating countries.
The next appointment will be with the Country Review Workshop on 3 October.
