Fire Brigade drills at the Latina power plant
05 December 2024
From 19 to 22 November 2024, staff from the
Latina Command Fire Brigade, qualified in SAF (Alpine Caving and River) techniques, conducted a series of training sessions at the Latina nuclear power plant.
In conjunction with Sogin, about 40 units from the Fire Brigade actively participated in these drills with the aim of strengthening skills in the industrial field.
The drills covered two main areas: at the construction site dedicated to the dismantling of boilers and inside the Cirene "gymnasium", especially set up as a testing ground for training in working at heights, promoted by the Radwaste Management School (RaMS).
Two instructors and daily teams of eight Firefighters worked with Sogin personnel, trained in specific techniques for working at heights, simulating coordinated interventions in response to possible emergency situations, including rescue manoeuvres for the recovery and handling of the injured. In addition, a study was also made of the aspects regarding the "inert suspension" syndrome, a condition that can occur when a person remains suspended unconscious at altitude and requires timely intervention.
As a whole, the drill was highly formative, helping to guarantee operations, improve coordination and optimise response times in the event of an emergency. Its implementation was made possible thanks to the experience of Sogin technicians as RaMS trainers in the field of health and safety at work, especially working at heights and in confined environments.
