During the period of operation, the Off-gas Building hosted a waste gas treatment plant and performed the treatment of gaseous substances prior to their release in the air.
The facility was dismantled in several stages.
Between 2007 and 2009, preliminary activities were completed – i.e. the removal of asbestos and activated carbons.
Subsequently, the 52-metres high metallic chimney was demolished.
Operations were completed in 2010 and resulted in 350 tonnes of metallic materials sent to recovery facilities. At the same time, between 2007 and 2010, the components located in the Off-Gas Building and adjacent hold-up premises were removed and decontaminated.
