In 2007, the fuel contained in the pool of Saluggia site was shipped to Avogadro Repository to be later sent abroad.
In 2014, in the framework of the Italy-US GTRI programme (Global Threat Reduction Initiative), the site was completely freed from nuclear material.
By adhering to this initiative, Italy greatly supported the nuclear decommissioning programme, since removing irradiated fuel is fundamental to free sites from radiological restrictions.
